Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New Jersey

Regarding defamation

I was hired to write for a magazine. Essentially, hired in September, turned in October 1, and today to this day still was not paid. In the process of trying to get paid, the editor was unprofessional and called me asanine, etc.

Today after inquiring about the work to his boss, I told them of my unpleasant experience with this person. Because of some computer issues, I no longer have all the emails (we never spoke on the phone). I never once published his name or company about my experience or spoke to a third party about it specifically.

I received an email saying:

Additionally, because of legal issues now raised by your claim, and HIS right to pursue this matter in the courts, as he has already expressed, I must now forward all communications from you, with all of its discrepancies, to our company attorney to ensure our company cannot be enjoined in any litigation stemming from your complaint. I must all forward all of your communications to Mr. Ceasers attorney, at HIS request, to file a complaint in the state of ___________.

One lawyer told me he has no claim. Does he have a case? Above he said they have to save things in case I will sue them (which I said I was not going to do), then he said he's making a claim.
