Legal Question in Insurance Law in New Jersey

I own a condo in New Jersey. I am a Pennsylvania resident and I needed some painting done and I hired a contractor from PA. He went down and did the work and when he was leaving he was getting in the elevator and the door kept closing. He pushed it back very forcefully and knocked it off the track. He jammed the elevator. I was told by the condo association that I am responsible for the repair. AM I???

Thank you.

If your contractor took actions to damage the elevator, you may be liable, but can also sue the painter to be compensated. However, if the elevator was already broken and had to be reapired anyway, you may not. i would need a little more information to determine the best course of action. Thank you.
