I signed a contract 20 years ago with my employer is it still valid

Most likely not. If for example, this was a non-compete NJ courts will not enforce those beyond a few years as between an employee and employer. But the facts matter.

At a minimum, I would consult with a lawyer before taking any chances, but again I highly doubt anything in the employment realm would still be valid.
