Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

Under what circumstance is the owner of a house not obligated to pay tenants relocation assistance for an illegal apartment? I am the prime tenant for my parents in their house in NJ. I installed a countertop in the attic where I previously lived thus making it illegal (I did, not the landlords). Now I have to evict & fear that I have to pay 6 months rent to these people who have been rude and not paid rent.

You may be stuck with it, but you may have other claims against them to offset this. You need a lawyer, I think. Call me if you like, I have handled cases like this. 201 820 3460.
