Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

I rented an apartment for my son and two other friends. After less than a week, the apartment manager tried to evict them without proper notice. The attorneys for the apartments have sent to notices to cease and then terminate by Sept. 10th. My son moved to a one bedroom apartment on Sept. 4th. The other two tenants refused to leave. I sent a letter to them to vacate and gave a copy to the manager. After a consultation with an attorney, he said there was nothing I could do. Since My name is on the lease as the main payee, I was told that I would have an eviction charge against me and my son even though he has moved on before Sept. 10. What can I do to?

You're in a mess. I would have to see a copy of the lease to figure out how much of a mess but getting you out of it will depend on how cooperative we can get the landlord to be. You may have a cause of action against the other two who are occupying the apartment now but that will not cover what is probably your primary liability to the landlord. If you want me to look the lease over and give you a more detailed assessment, call or email.
