Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

How do I get rid of my rental assistance tenant? She not only refused my rent increase and left messages on my phone calling me a "Crackhead" and made derogatory remarks about my brother, people I've sent over to fix her complaints. She slandered myself, and my friend, not only in writing but in letters that she sent to her caseworker, who sent them to me. She's called the police on me.

I can help. New Jersey has a very pro-tenant Anti-Eviction law but the landlord can still have a tenant evicted if proper notice are given and certain types of bad behavior are repeated. As for her status as a rental assisted tenant, I would have to know what program was providing the assistance and what documents you may have signed to set up the tenancy. Various programs have different requirements for landlords. If I can be of further help to you, call or email.

There may be approches. Most subsidized tenacies are subject to limitations on rent and you can not exceed them. Plus if you have a lease the terms can not be changed until the end of the lease and appropriate notice. Some of the behavior you mention may be a basis to evict but would require appropriate notices. You need to have the file reviewed. Most attorneys will offer a free consult.
