Legal Question in Legal Malpractice in New Jersey

I have an issue which stems frm 2000. I was apprehended during a "moving violation" and was subsequently asked to a vehicle search. I complied and was charged with possession of a CDS. I ended up pleading to a conspiracy charge but this was my first charge and I directed the police and my public defender as to whom the paraphenalia belonged to. I believe that I was thoroughly misrepresented and was not given the options most that were in my situation received (PTI..etc). Since this conviction ( I did not know then what the ramifications would be today 2014) I have not be able to keep a job. Once they run my background report, I am terminated, I am considered a threat to a neighborhood and cannot obtain a permanent residency, and a host of other things that hinder me from progressing in life. I need to know how to go about suing my public defender. I believe that if all evidence and statements were allowed to be disclosed, the whole case would have been dismissed. I have been trying to get this expunged since 2001 and still get the same results. I need to know what direct would be more condusive for me to go.
