Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

My husband and I considered selling our home in Aug 2012. Signed listing agreement with realtor who left commencement and end dates blank in terms of agreement but never actually listed home. In Aug 2013, realtor listed home and had us initial next to original signature on 2012 listing agreement with blank start/end dates. Want to fire agent for dissatisfaction with services, but will not release us citing contract valid til Aug 2014, but terms of agreement dates were filled in after we signed. Is this legal? Can we dispute contract since dates were added after the fact...our copy has blank dates.

You certainly made life more difficult by signing an agreement with some of the essential terms blank. That said, there is no reason why you should have to stick with a realtor who is not performing until August. I can't tell what the appropriate course of action might be without reviewing that agreement. If you are interested in exploring your options, call or email and we can set up an appointment for you.

I agree with John but suggest filing a complaint with the Realty Board. I would first call the broker's manager and report what happened. See how the manager reacts, especially sice you will threaten to go to the Board.
