Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

I pulled into a gas station to get gas. Took my belt off to go inside and when I saw a cop behind me at the pumps. He was in the parking lot just sitting there. Both my passenger and I had them on. I had no idea what was going on. He approached me and stated you know why I'm pulling you over right? I had no clue I thought it was because of the bike and bike rack I had on the back of my car had maybe come loose or something. He stated I tried to put my seatbelt on really quickly which is untrue. This has me really mad and I want to fight it.

I am assuming that you received a ticket for allegedly not wearing a seatbelt? if so, it is not a moving violation and does not carry points. It is only a fine. if you want to fight it plead not guilty and ask the Court for a trial. The Judge will hear what you and the officer both have to say and make a decision concerning your guilt or lack thereof, I do not think you need an attorney to fight it, but that is up to you. good luck
