If you are saying that you never had a drivers license in New Jersey or anywhere else then at a minimum you would be facing a fine of about $200.00 (it could be higher) and the court would enter an order basically suspending your right to apply for a new jersey license for a period of six months, the ticket that you were issued was 3-10 unlicensed driving. Although the statute also carries a discretionary jail sentence of up to 60 days it is very unlikely that a judge would put someone in jail for a first offense. It is also important to keep in mind that if you are caught driving during that six month period, an officer could give you a ticket for driving while suspended so it is crucial that you do not drive until you actually get a license. Although I understand that you were helping out your boyfriend who was apparently too drunk to drive the car, it does not serve as a defense for you. Did you receive any other tickets? Why did the officer pull you over to begin with. I would be curious in knowing those details. Please feel free to call with any questions 201 342 5030 or 973 723-8995.
