If a defendant grossly misrepresents an answer to an averment paragraph of a complaint, should the opposing party request an order of the court to allow a reply to the answer??

Not at this time. This is a matter which will be dealt with during the discovery phase [the D can be asked for evidence or the basis for the response, for example], and, if warranted, later during the Summary Judgment phase of the proceedings.
