I am going to develop a new branded food product that will be contract packed by a third party and need to learn what contacts will be required to protect my idea from being pirated.

Re: Trademark/ Intellectual Property

Based on your description above, what you'll need is a contract that contains terms, among others, the following: (i) terms of non-disclosure/confidentiality and (ii) terms regarding intellectual property--that you own the design, that they only have the license to use the design/logo to produce the food product, nothing else. Usually, these terms can be included in a contract called the Co-packer Agreement.
