Can you charge someone money for an item that you obtain for free?

Obviously, the short answer is yes. I suppose that under certain niche scenarios there might be some aspect of good faith and fair dealing that may come into play, but even here it would be unlikely problematic.

I agree with Frank. Of course, this presumes that the item has value, and the value is not less than what you are charging, and cannot be obtained elsewhere for less that what you are charging.
