Legal Question in Business Law in New York

I own a jewelry store in upstate NY. We also do repair work. We have a repair job that we completed for our customer in 2012 and the charge for the repair is $842.40. We have tried to contact this person probably 6-8 times during this time period but to no avail. we would like to know if we can legally sell this persons merchandise to cover the cost of our repair? Thank you for your time

Try sending a letter by certified mail to the last known address. Do a search in the area for everyone with the same last name and find out if anyone knows them or of their whereabouts.

Publish in the local newspaper. Contact the local better business bureau for their written guidance. If no response, make sure you place an ad in the local newspaper. If no response within three months, sell the goods for their market value and take all the expenses in addition and place in a file and store away in case someone shows up in the future.
