Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York

employees rights

As an employee of a company that is under investigation, do I have the right to refuse to answer any questions to the federal investigation bureau, or would I be subpeoned into court to do so. should I have legal representation with me for all questioning. Or do they even have the right to question me, being I am not under investigation. I thank you in advance for any assistant that you can provide. Also there is legal representation for the company when questions are asked. I have the feeling they are there for the organization not for me as an individual.

Re: employees rights

Your intuition is correct, a lawyer for the company is representing the company and not you personally. That is his job and his professional obligation. The only way to ensure that your rights are protected is for you to hire your own personal counsel.

With limited exceptions, public authorities can question you, even if you are not under investigation. And with limited exceptions, you have the right not to answer them. I would be happy to talk to you about this situation.

Should you like to discuss this or any other legal matter, you can call my office to schedule an appointment for a consultation or in the alternative, I can be reached for on-phone low-cost legal consultation at 1-800-275-5336 x0233699.
