Legal Question in Consumer Law in New York

fake art

Hi, some time ago I purchased some artwork from an individua in New York. This turned out to be fake. I have all the professional proof in place to prove this and have asked for my money back. The individual has agreed to pay me but is stalling and won't agree terms. The amount involved adds up to 28,500 . How can I proceed? Is there a legal notice I can send without incurring massive costs via a lawyer? Thanks

Re: fake art

You could send him a letter demanding payment, or a lawyer could send a letter demanding payment. However, a letter from you or a lawyer has no legal effect.

If he doesn't pay you the only way to compel payment is to start an action. Sometimes you have to spend money in order to get money back.

28,000 pounds is quite a bit of money.

I agree with Mr. Lazroe. You would start with a lawyers letter.

I would also contact the local District Attorney's office. If the individual forged artwork for the purpose of illegally obtaining money, that would be a crime. Only a prosecutor may proceed on a criminal complaint.

Finally, contact a lawyer. I have experience handling these matters.

Mike.
