Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Hi,

I would like to hear your suggestion to prove a innocent mother.

My wife went to a shopping mall along with my 13 months old son with a stroller.

As the mall is very closer to our apartment, she went by walk.

In the mall, she picked some clothes and wanted to try in the fitting room whether it fits or not.

While my wife was shopping, my son started crying for milk and he was also taking the clothes out of the stroller.

In a few minutes he was crying like anything. So my wife wanted to breastfeed him in the fitting room.

Before turning into fitting room, he cried so high. Normally he doesn't drink anything when people are around.

So my wife kept all the items in a bag and zipped it and then put it under the stroller,

then quickly came out through exit and turned right (very close to exit) to find a shadow place where nobody was around to feed him.

When she turned right after exit, the shop keeper caught her and called the police. Cops filed a case against her.

Interestingly she doesn't speak English, So the shop keeper made a big show out of it.

She is innocent and no intention to steal anything. When I went there, I explained what happened and I told them she wanted to come back , not to run away with these items. Still the store keeper forced the cops to file a case.

Your suggestion is highly required to remove this blame on a innocent mother.

Regards,

Linc,
