Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
I shoplifted and was caught. I now have a court date, should I hire a lawyer? I'm 18 and this is also my first time going against the law. It was a mistake and I'm trying to get rid of it. I'm just wondering if I should waste my money on a lawyer if its not necessary.

It is always advisable if you can afford an attorney to retain one. Unless you are indigent the court will not appoint a free one for you.
