Legal Question in Education Law in New York

I have been trying to get answers from my student loan company for quite some time now. A few months back I was trying to find out information regarding the possibility of deferment so I could go back to school. I was told that my loan was ineligible for deferment as stated by the Guarantor of my loan. After hearing this I tried to get a hold of my contact at the Guarantor's office directly only to find out that the company who was named as Guarantor of my loan has gone out of business. My student loan company still has this non-existent guarantor listed on my loan information. When I asked about this they told me that they were indeed still my guarantor. I again responded with proof of the company's non-existence in which they replied back within hours of who the new guarantor was but would not give me a contact of someone whom I could reach. They then told me I could write a letter requesting the deferment and they would pass it along for me. They gave me this answer once before when I requested that my parents be dropped as my co-signers, my parents wrote the letter and they were still denied with no reason.
