Legal Question in Family Law in New York

I went to family court for the first time ever, the judge made a temp order until we come back because i was out of work due to surg and am starting a new job.The Judge asked my income and predicted an estimated amount but wanted proven pay stubs before making final order at next court date. On the forms he gave me it says to bring last 3 years taxes with w-2s affidavit an recent pay stubs. Why would they want the last 3 years if they will have current pay stubs? My exs lawyer also sent me a discovery demand letter asking for all of the above plus bank statements and medical release info- why would the lawyer want this?is this a way to screw me?
