Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Reregistering a Car after a divorce

I just found out that my car registration was suspended because my soon to be ex-husband had outstanding parking tickets. The car is currently registered in his name. I will be getting full ownership of the car in the divorce settlement. Do I need to pay off the tickets in order to register the car in my name, or do I just turn in the license plates and re-register the car in my name using a copy of the divorce decree? I live in New York State.

Under the ownership consent statute you need to pay off the tickets.

Yes as the dmv suspended his registration and not yours so if he signs title over to you you could re register the auto
