Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

Bad Lawyer

My daughter's lawyer has not persued her divorse case

and now she is practically economically being destroyed. I have helped as much as I can- I am 77 yrs. old.

Lawyer was paid a retainer 8 Dec. 1999 and a later billing. Today is 28 July 2000.

He has reams of info. that she has supplied- always an excuse. He won't answer telephone calls, etc.

What can be done?

I received your reply on 9-12-2000.

There maybe reasons for this...however, in the event that you are dissatisifed, reataining a new atoorney might be a prudent move.

Good Luck.

Re: Bad Lawyer

A client always has the right to file a disciplinary complaint against the lawyer, and it's sometimes a good thing to do. If the lawyer is doing this to one client, there may be others and the disciplinary committee takes these matters very seriously. It's easy, it's free and it usually gets results. Call your county bar association or call Albany, Office of Court Administration, and they will give you a number.

Re: Bad Lawyer

I would suggest changing lawyers.
