Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

My sister in law has started telling people I sexually assaulted her over 30 years ago . These accusations are totally false and made up . As of late , she has accused me of controlling my wife and of having a woman on the side which again is totally false . She has MANY issues from homelessness to being reported to DSS by her own adult child . Is there ANY course of action I can take ?

Paula McGill Attorney at Law

One course of action is to sue her for defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress. However, both of those claims are difficult to prove. Moreover, there are damage and collection issues that may make the matter not worth pursuing.

You should consult with an attorney in an office visit to determine if the facts of your case establish causes of action for those two claims or other claims.
