Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York

I am a 40 year old man, that was brought into the United States illegally through Canada. I went to elemantary school in the US as well as High school and College. I am NOT a US citizen and would like to become one. I currently hold an expired NY License and planning on getting married within the next few months. My mother is also an American Citizen. Is there something that I can do to obtain citizenship so I can get married in city hall?

Unfortunately, you cannot obtain U.S. citizenship at this late date through your mother. However, if you marry a U.S. citizen, there might be options for you. You can, however, get married in City Hall, despite not having legal U.S. status. I would highly recommend discussing your situation in detail with an experienced immigration attorney first. Good luck!

There are different factors that might help your case. First, were your mother a US citizen when you were born? Second, were you ever petitioned by your parent? We suggest you to consult with an immigration attorney to get a full evaluation of your case.
