Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York

I have a friend who lives in the Dominican Republic and I'd like for her to come visit me here in the U.S. She has attempted to obtain a tourist visa but was denied. We don't want to try for a fiance visa because we are not ready to get married. She needs to return to her country. She still has 3 more years to complete at her university and is not ready to move. She just wants the ability to visit on occasion.

What other options does she have? Is there anyway I can help her get approved for a tourist visa? Are our only options really marriage or nothing?

I would not recommend marriage to get someone in the country. There are no other visas if she wants to visit briefly. I would also need to know why her B-2 visa application was denied in the first place, since perhaps she might be able to re-file with more convincing evidence of her imminent return home.
