Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York

L-1a

What is the maximum number of years a person can remain in L-1 status?

If a person's initial L-1 status was valid for 2 years and then was extended for 3 years (which is about to expire in 2 months), and if the person only intermittently visited U.S. during this 5 yr period, can his company file for extension and recapture the time he was outside of U.S.?

Thanks for the help.

Re: L-1a

The maximum period of stay for an L-1B is 5 years; 7 years for an L-1A. Time spent outside the U.S. may be recaptured. Moreover, if the individual only intermitently visited the U.S., the maximum period of stay may be extended beyond the stated time periods.
