Legal Question in Insurance Law in New York

I am a renter at 281 Grand St. I do not have renter's insurance. There was a 7-alarm fire that started at 285 Grand St and spread to the building next to mine, 283 Grand St. My building did not catch on fire but the FDNY fought the fire from my apartment which was completed trashed in the process. There is significant water, smoke and mud damage throughout. We have also been vacated from the premises for an undetermined amount of time while they demolish the two buildings that were destroyed. We had one opportunity to be escorted into the apartment to grab what little personal effects we could carry out in our hands. All of my belongings are still sitting in mud and water. The fire site smoldered for 3 days after the fire constantly filling the apartment with smoke. The windows have since been boarded up and the doors locked... smoke included. I am now technically homeless. My question is, do I have any rights to some sort of compensation from either my landlord's insurer or from the City of New York for my damages?
