Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

I live in NY state and I am receiving severance pay. I was laid off on 11/15/13 & am being paid my regular pay rate bi weekly thru February. I was notified today that the company received a notice to garnish my pay. Can a garnishment be made against severance pay? Thanks
