Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

Was my teaching certificate revoked?

As a teacher I had charges raised against me. I was offered the option of resigning or retiring in place of having a hearing on the charges. I agreed to this. In the agreement I signed it states in return for having the charges withdrawn from my file I understood that I could never again work as a teacher for this particular city board of education and that a copy of this agreement would be kept in my file should I attempt to get my job back but the information would not be released to anyone without my consent except as required by law.

My question is this: I would like to apply for teacher certification in another state. All states ask if ''you have ever had a teaching certicate revoked in any state.'' If I answer ''no:'' would I be perjuring myself?

Re: Was my teaching certificate revoked?

No, you were barred from teaching in one municipality bd of ed and not the entire state. Furthermore there was no hearing on any revocation of your cert. So you may answer 'no'
