Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

I was turned down by a employer after an interview because they only want "minorities". I was infuriated by this because the interviewer said I was perfect for the job and would of hired me if my ethnic background was that of a minority. Is this illegal and can I possibly get a lawsuit for discrimination?

There may have been a violation of Title VII. Go the EEOC website for more information.

The website also has the office that is closest to you. (www.EEOC.gov).

There are also equivalent NYS laws that may provide greater protection against discrimination in hiring. If you need additional information on that agency, go to the NY State website.
