Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

I live in Merrick NY and unfortunally due to being out of work for almost a year i am behind on my rent. nassau housing offered to pay my landlord however my landlord refused the money instead in march served me with a 30day notice. Yesterday may 1st her son who is 50 yrs old was threatening me i did call the cops but it did not do anything.Once i am served papers how long do i have to

find a place? the cops said the judge will kick me out right away but someone i know told me it takes 4-6 weeks(it happened to him a few years ago) i am scared and am very nervous

I agree with your friend. Soup to nuts it takes approximately 4 to 6 weeks.

Upon service of papers, you should appear in Court and negotiate time to vacate the apartment. The Court usually grants a reasonable request from the tenant.
