Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in New York

We have a wrongful death. Our dad past away we hadsettled out of court my sister already had sign for a voluntary administrator of his Easte the other sisters had to sign a wavier consent now we are wating for surrgorates courts to finalize our settlement. Can it take a year or longer for us to recieve any money? I was told it depends on the case it can take up to weeks months years

From the time the Surrogate's Court is asked to approve the settlement, it should be a matter of weeks. Not months. Not years. It can take years to resolve the case but approval of the Surrogate should be the last step. This does not smell right.
