Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York

After hurricane Sandy I was driving on my way to work. I came to an intersection and I looked at the traffic light. The light was green and I proceeded to cross it. As I drove I saw another vehicle approaching from my right and I hit it in a T -bone accident. I got out of my car and ran to see the person I had hit. She was in shock and eventually the ambulance came to pick her up. When the police arrived to make an accident report they noted the lights were not working. Because of the hurricane the previous night, the lights in both directions were green. As they took the report another accident almost occurred because of the faulty traffic lights. The police asked me for id and insurance but a few nights before I had lost my wallet in a cab and I lost my license. I explained and they didn't give me a problem just gave me the accident report. It's been a year since the accident. Now I received a letter from the attorney of the person I hit. They want my insurance information. I found out after the accident, that my insurance had lapsed. I didn't gave insurance at the time of the accident. What can I do about this? Does the other person even have a case against me ? What can happen to me since the police didn't even ID me ?

Advise them you had no insurance. They can make an uninsured claim against there own policy, but must prove your fault and a serious injury, if any. Retain private counsel. Good Luck.
