Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York

My husband and I received a Summons with Complaint regarding a supposed dog bite. and I know I have to answer it but I'm just not sure how to do so. I don't have money for a lawyer so I'm trying to do it myself. I have pictures and documents that can help me with denying some of their claims. Can anyone try to explain on how to properly answer the complaint?

Do you have homeowners insurance? That should cover you and unless you are in small claims court I am afraid you need a lawyer to negotiate an end to the suit.

Homeowners, and perhaps apartment insurance, cover such incidents. If you have neither, you might telephone the plaintiff's lawyer and explain the situation. In the absence of coverage, lawsuits are sometimes not pursued. VTY, MEZ

Do not default. If you have no insurance you must still answer the complaint yourself responding to each paragraph of the complaint. File a copy in court and mail a copy to the attorney.
