Legal Question in Product Liability in New York

someone left a laptop in my house( i didnt borrow it ) and repeatedly said they would come and get it through out a 2 or 3 month period and never did. I had a house party and someone stole the laptop...am i responsible for it?

There is a concept of "bailment" in the law-Google it and it will explain the levels of responsibility. Yours sounds like a "gatuitous" bailment (save the link and print it out).

IF the person sued (Sm Claims Ct, usually), I highly doubt the judge would rule for that person, citing the bailment rule, esp if you have proof you contacted the person to remind the person it was there.
