Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

My 86 year old grandfather has a life estate and his son and daughter in law are the holders of the deed. They are responsible for tax, insurance , maintenance and up keep of the property. they have not been doing any repairs they have no insurance on the home and the taxes where payed late. How do we go about getting the deed back in his name solely?

I would have to review the documentation. Everything turns on what is in the documents, because you already have a very weird deal. If it was not done right, your grandfather has no rights beyond occupancy of the property and if it falls down or is lost for nonpayment of taxes, he has nothing. But maybe the deal was done correctly. I would review the documents free of charge and give you an idea of what you're up against.
