Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

I was in a court case involving the sale of land. The dispute was that the plaintiff was entitled to his money back with interest, with which the defendant did not agree. The Court rendered a decision that the money with interest must be returned to the plaintiff and a judgement against the defendant was issued. The plaintiff is now appealing the decision, claiming that the amount should include penalty interest. Is the judgement stayed by the filing of the appeal?
