Legal Question in Tax Law in New York

If I live in NY and work in NJ how should my income be divided

I live in NY and I work in NJ, my company made a mistake and didn't take out NJ witholding, only NY. No problem...I will just owe NJ. But, in NJ they reported my full income...but they reported the same income in NY. I didn't make any money in NY...shouldnt the state wages say $0.00 in NY? Please help...my company has no idea how it is suppose to be done. And I am getting a headache trying to get answers from them.

An aspirin might help.

You report the same amount of income from earnings to both New Jersey and New York. In your New York tax return you will receive a credit for the tax you paid to New Jersey. The earnings get taxed only once.
