how do i insure and protect my inheritdence so that only my children and grandchildren are the ones who receive it and not say my son-in law or daughter in law?

Your "in-laws" would not automatically receive anything even if you passed away without a Will in NYS but may inherit from your children (his/her spouse).

However, the best way to assure that your testamentary intent is adhered to is by having a Will or Trust document (useful for minors) in place.
