Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in North Carolina

Hi,

I signed a car loan contract in North Carolina under the belief that my mom was going to co-sign. I took the keys and drove the car home. The contract was mailed to My mom who no longer wants to sign. What is going to happen?

Good for her! Co-signing is ALWAYS a bad deal for the co-signer. What this probably means is that the car was "spotted" to you - that is given to you with the hope that all would be well and you would be approved for the loan. Well, you are not going to be approved. Your options now are: (a) find someone else who is dumb enough to co-sign because there is a good chance that you will default on the loan; (2) find another way to come up with funds for the car (either make a larger down payment or get another lender who does not require a co-signer); (3) give the car back and get a less expensive car that will not require you to have a co-signer; or (4) just give the car back.
