Legal Question in Criminal Law in North Carolina

I was driving with one of my headlights out and got pulled when pulled the officer came to the car he told me the problem by he pulled me over and in the process he said he smelled weed. So he gave us a chance to be honest and I did I gave him my blunt and he wrote me a citation. OK o this would be my first possession charge I'm 19 and I'm not trying to have that on my record so what can I do?

Well not smoking weed would be a good start. Not driving around in a car with defective equipment while in possession of weed would also help. Ya get where I going with this? The problem isn't that you got caught - the problem is you choosing to break the law. Until you get that problem fixed, your 'record' is the least of your problems because you're likely looking at a lifetime of this type of petty bullshit. That said any decent criminal attorney can help you on a first offense and it should not cost too much - so shop around. Based on the information you provided her, any lawyer quoting you more than $500 is in my opinion ripping you off. And stop smoking weed or at least minimize your risk by doing it at home.
