Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

child custody between sisters

I would like to know who to contact in the event that you feel that you are being treated unfairly and inaccurately in a child custody matter? Who do you contact if your parental rights have not been acknowledged? Who do you contact if you have been ripped off by lawyers?

Unfair treatment in custody matter

I was going to suggest that you will need a good lawyer to look into custody matters where you feel that you have been treated wrongly. But then you ask what to do to complain about a lawyer who has ripped you off, so it sounds like you are simply dissatisfied (to say the least) with how your lawyer has represented you. Custody matters are the messiest and absolutely the most unpleasant part of the practice of law, so many lawyers won't mess with custody stuff. But there are plenty who will; and it's usually probably pretty expensive. However, if you have a complaint about a lawyer, call the N.C. State Bar at 919-828-4620 and ask how to go about filing a complaint. A number of lawyers get disbarred in NC every year for various reasons. Usually it seems to be related to the misuse of client funds, but there are other reasons. But it's not good enough to just be mad at how your case came out; you must somehow show that the lawyer didn't do what he/she was supposed to do or some other important error or omission.
