Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

Me and my ex-wife divorced in 2001 and for years after that, I had custody of our minor son and his mother was paying me child support. Recently, my son, who turned 16 almost 2 years ago decided he wanted to live with his mother. Therefore, I was ordered to pay her support. Now my son wants to come live with me again and I assume my child support to her should and will be stopped. My son turns 18 in less than 2 months but the way NC law states, one of us will have to pay support until the child turn 18 or graduates high school whichever happens last. My question is this, After he turns 18, and if he decides to go back with his mother before he graduates, can she again file for child support?
