My father recently passed and I am the only beneficiary for his life insurance policy (he has been divorced for around 23 years). I am going through a separation with my wife. Will my wife be entitled to any of the insurance payout? We live in and my father passed in NC if state laws vary.

Generally speaking, no. An inheritance to you is likely separate propery not subject to equitable distribution in NC. There are exceptions to most rules so check with a local estate / family law attorney to make sure regarding the specifics of your particular situation.
