Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

If a mother dies and is not married, who is responsible for her funeral arrangements? WE are having an issue about this. I think that it's the eldest son but am not for certain. PLEASE HELP!!!

Generally speaking, her Estate would be responsible for the costs of the funeral. (I assume you are addressing the costs of the funeral, and not the logistics of the funeral, but let me know if I am mistaken.) This would be paid from funds from the Estate (if any) which would of course ultimately reduce the amount received by the heirs (and hence the heirs might just want to pay for the funeral directly).
