Legal Question in Immigration Law in North Carolina

My girlfriend lives in the Dominican Republic. We are making plans to get engaged, then married. What is the process? Where do I start?

You'll likely want to go forward with the K-1 fiancee visa process.

You may find information on the process along with my K-1 visa services here:

If she is going to apply for her immigrant visa abroad, you can find out more information at the U.S. Consulate's website: http://santodomingo.usembassy.gov/immigrant_visas.html.

If you want to bring her to the U.S. on a fiance visa, you can obtain more information through the U.S. Department of State website: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_2994.html.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Good luck!

That will depend upon whether you wish to marry here or there. A fianc visa petition may be the place to start, or if you wish to marry there an immigrant visa petition and perhaps a K visa petition filing as well. For the most part the best option will depend upon your and her plans and individual timing needs.

Congratulations!
