can an employer ask you to clock out and wait for them to get there and fire you for leaving

Unless you are under contract, yes he can fire you. If you waited and were not paid, you can file a wage claim with the Department of Labor

If you were fired, you can apply for unemployment. But as an at will work state, you can be fired for pretty much any reason.
