Legal Question in Personal Injury in North Carolina

Back in February of 1999 when I was a senior in high school, I was instructed to remove and replace a tennis net from the school tennis courts during school hours by a high school faculty member (a coach & teacher). I was given the tools, and myself & another student went to the tennis courts by ourselves & while trying to remove the tennis net, the metal spool that the tennis net wire is wrapped around hit me in the face & I had to go to the hospital for 17 stitches. I had several injures to my teeth & gums. The school used their athletic insurance to pay for one year of treatments (root canals, dentistry, hospital). Since that time I have been in & out of the dentist to fix these injuries. I was recently told by a dentist that due to my trauma back in 1999, I now have a serious infection in my gums & I have some major dental work done. The county where I went to school is reluctant to take on liability for any medical coverage. I have paid thousands of dollars in work over the past 13 years & now I have to pay a few thousand more. If I don't have this work done I could develop a worse infection that will eventually lead to my brain (that is what the dentist told me). The dentist said he is willing to put in writing that this infection is due to the trauma back in 1999. What should me next step be?

Although we cannot comment on the merit of the case (you may not have had a case to begin with) the statute of limitations in North Carolina is three years. Unfortunately, it's too late to do anything.

If there are other details you think affect your eligibility, feel free to contact us and we'll let you know if your injuries are compensable.
