Legal Question in Real Estate Law in North Carolina

We had a mortgage that was paid off in 1998 (have proof with another mortgage) where they paid them off. Now trying to get a loan with a local government bank (mortgage and the 1998 loan did not release a "satisfied deed of trust" and this bank has to have one. we have been thru many road trying to get a "satisfaction" even thru a attorney, and can not seem to get anywhere. just getting a run around. Have faxed paper work, made lots of phone calls, they say we do not owe money but will not release a satisfaction. Any suggestions?

Yes, hire an attorney who understands real estate law. There is a process where you can hire an attorney to file a satisfaction for you. I have done this on several occasions. There is a process where if you have paid off the loan and can prove this, a licensed NC attorney can file a satisfaction for you after a few short steps.
