Legal Question in Traffic Law in North Carolina

63 in a 45, PFJ or reduce to 54 in 45?

I received a ticket in February that got

reduced to equipment failure. The

sheriff told me today my record was

clean when he handed me my 63 in a

45 ticket. He also told me that if I show

up to court he'll reduce it. My husband

used to be a cop and told me the sheriff

can't promise he'll get it reduced.

I will go to court; should I try for the 9

over or PFJ? I'm trying to avoid the

insurance hike, but what do points on

my DMV record mean?

It menas if you get enough points in a certain period of time, your license will be suspended. I typically still recommend a reduction and save the PJC which can be used for other offenses that reductions can't (like stop sign violation). If you don't get pulled over often, a couple points on your record won't hurt you too much.
